SPOTLIGHT: MARK MCCLURE

There was no doubt in my mind that the role of Ernie Anthony was Marc McClure's.  That's not to say Marc in any way mirrors Ernie's character.  Ernie is a jerk and Marc is a wonderful guy.

What Marc McClure is is a solid actor.  I worked with him in "Apollo 13" and saw a guy who was honest to the bone.  His choices aren't forced and he understands that an actor's work is part of a greater whole.  A really great team player.

I called Marc and ask him if he was interested in playing an obnoxious agent in the Variety Show.  He came over to house and in about three minutes of spitballing,  Barry and I knew  we had a winner.

That's no surprise.  Marc is a show business veteran.  His career began in 1975 as a 4'11", 95 lbs 18-year-old playing twelve in the TV series , "The Cop  And The Kid" with Charles Durning.  Shortly thereafter, he appeared with Jodie Foster in Disneyþs "Freaky Friday".

Marc's career took off after Dick Donner cast him as Jimmy Olsen in the 1978 mega-hit "Superman".  He reprised the Olsen role four times in the movie franchise.

Marc played Dave McFly in two "Back To The Future" films as well as appearing in the 1987 cult classic "Amazon Women On The Moon".

Recently, Marc played the role of Granger in "Landspeed" with Billy Zane.
We all know Marc from films and television but I also know him from golf.  He loves the game and we regularly tee it up together at local courses.  He's a great guy to share a round of golf with but there's one thing that really ticks me off; he's got five holes in one and I'm waiting for my first.
