It comes as a surprise to a lot of folks that I'm a rock and roller.
Pretty hard core, actually. Back in 1981-1983, I had a band called "THE
KEMPSTERS". Started with childhood pal Scott Greene, the band gave
me an opportunity to express myself in a way only rock and roll can. Click

We were an in your face, let's kick some ass and have some fun kind
of an act. Part punk, part new wave, part traditional rock and roll, The
Kempsters weren't concerned about sounding like anyone else or doing music
for the middle of the road. We played music the way we wanted to hear
it.
Scott and I wrote the tunes. Titles like "Left Handed Boy In A Right
Handed World", "New Wave Dog Days", "I Don't Care
Nothin", and "Who's To Blame" would fill our set. Our signature
song was a crazy little ditty
called "No Brains At All" that fans would always request.
Our lead guitarist was Sabino Flores. Boy, can he play. Not only is he
really talented but he understood what it was to be a Kempster.
The band had several incarnations. Tony Rodriguez replaced Spooner
Bauer on the drums early on and Jay Dean was replace by Mike Ceballos
toward the end as our bassist.
We played the L.A. and Orange County club scene for a couple of years
with highlight gigs coming at Madame Wongs and Radio City. Opening for
punk legends "The Dickies" at Ichabods was a memorable Kempster
evening.
I retired the band at the end of '83 but I look back on those days with
very fond memories and very grateful that I was a Kempster. Hey, when
I
really want to listen to some rock and roll I put on The Kempsters.
